Snowboard – Parallel Giant
Slalom World Cup
Jasey Jay Anderson glides to a fifth place
finish
Montreal, October 17, 2004 (Sportcom)
– Canadian snowboarder Jasey Jay Anderson place fifth today in
Soelden, Austria on his first parallel giant slalom race of
the World Cup season. It was an all-Swiss affair on the podium
with Philipp Schoch, Gilles Jacquet and Urs Eiselin sweeping
the top three positions.
Philippe Berube (Pierrefonds,
QC) had a personal best 18th place while Justin-Claude Dumont
(Pintendre, QC) placed 53rd.
“It’s the first giant slalom
of the season so I’m happy,” said Anderson, last season top
finisher in the overall standings on the World Cup circuit. “I
could have done better but I’m satisfied with this result.
It
was different for us to have the women going on one day and
the men on the other so the organizers had a ‘B’ final for
competitors ranked 5th to 8th and I won
that race.”
The 29 year-old from
Mont-Tremblant, Quebec was very pleased with his final run in
which he defeated the defending parallel slalom world champion
Siegfried Grabner, from Austria.
“The conditions were not
easy on the glacier,” added Anderson. “The snow that fell on
the course was cleared so we surfed on ice of thousands of
years of age. Skiers love icy courses but it’s different for
snowboarders since we only have one board and not two skis.”
The next World Cup event
will be presented indoors next weekend in the Netherlands.
“This is not your typical World Cup stop. The runs last 20
seconds instead of 35 seconds. It’s quite an innovation and
competing inside once per season is good,” concluded the
Canadian who confessed preferring outdoor competitions.
